Retirement Routine

I've been retired for eighteen years now, so I have my daily routine down pat. When I'm not on the road photographing and blogging my daily journals, I have a pretty standard pattern to my days.  I've thought lately about how that routine goes. Here's the result...

The creative side of my brain is alive and well, so I want to introduce my latest attempt at poetry.  This little ditty came to me in one of those bursts that usually last about ten minutes.  That's right, it took just about that long to write the first draft.  Then I spent about another hour refining it to come up with this...

By Harold Kline

Roll out of bed and take my meds,
Then 'whiz' and weigh to start my day :-|
Drink coffee first to slake my thirst.
Email, and Heck! No bills :-) No check :-(

Choose breakfast meal; flakes or oatmeal
It all tastes bland like eating sand :-(
Bring paper in  Good deeds and sins,
But no obits... too many hits :-(

Oh, what to wear? As if I care.
Nobody sees, so shorts and tees :-)
A Wal*Mart run for kicks and fun
Watch weirdoes there and stop and stare :-)

Now home for lunch. (Please make it crunch)
I think it's cruel old folks get gruel :-(
Ten hours to spend before day's end,
To fill the gap I'll take a nap :-)

Long afternoon don't sleep too soon.
I'll find a book and have a look :-|
Perhaps a show to help time go
No, silly plot! I guess I'll not :-(

Watch markets close. Hope my stocks rose.
Well, dinner's here, so have a beer :-)
Prime time TV I want to see.
It better make me stay awake :-(

I use this hour to take my shower
we must be seen as squeaky clean :-)
Check mail once more at night before
I close laptop so e-mails stop :-(

Now bedtime's close; take evening dose
And shortly then I'm prone again :-)
Tomorrow's play same as today
At least this clod's above the sod :-)

Is it any wonder that I love to take road trips?
